SOLY CISSE : Des hommes et des vies

Past exhibition
5 October 2017 - 7 November 2018
  • Overview

The gallery presents the work and new works of Soly Cisse.

A gallery artist for many years and now internationally renowned, find his work at the Gallery from 5.10 to 18.11 .2017 in Lyon.

Soly Cissé is a prolific artist. His work tells stories that seem to unfold in parallel universes.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, October 7 from 3pm to 7pm to discuss her work over a drink.

To enter Soly Cissé's aesthetic sphere is to take the risk of wandering into an unknown universe.

She creates a shadow of doubt in the viewer's mind. It's like no other, and it's impossible to attach it to reassuring notions.

If there are figures, they escape definition. There's nothing about it that isn't unsettling and even slightly disturbing. And yet, when observed carefully, his works are captivating in the full sense of the word...

Soly Cissé's works are full of poetry. A poetry of paradoxical content. But this poetry can only emerge on the sine qua none condition of not reproducing conventional patterns. Everything about him escapes convention. He does not paint images, but strives to render fugitive, vibrant moments tangible, moments that provide the raw material for his pictorial research, which is neither European nor African in the strict sense of the word (and even less a forced and consequently distorted synthesis of the two), taking from both what suits him to constantly nourish the extraordinary richness of his unique and fascinating inner realm, where illusion becomes real and reality, whatever it may be, becomes illusion.
